4. AL-HASAN IBN ALI AL-MUJTABA (A.S )
Name. al- Hasan Title: al-Mujtaba Agrnomen: Abu Muhammad Father’s name: Ali Amir al- Muminin. Mother’s name: Fatima( daughter of the Holy Prophet) Birth: In Mecca on Tuesday, 15th Ramazan 3 AH. When the good news of his birth reached the Holy Prophet, he came to his daughter house, took the newly-born child in his arm, recited azan and iqamah in his right and left ears respectively, and named him al-Husan, in the compliance of Allah’s command. First phase of 7 years of his infancy was blessed with gracious patronage of the Holy Prophet, who gifted him all his great qualities and adorned him with Divine knowledge, tolerance, intelligence, bounty and valor. The Holy Imam(a.s) immediately became conversant with all the contents of any way( Quranic verses) revealed when the Holy Prophet would disclose it to his associates. The Imam(a.s) devoted himself to prayers in such abundance, that all the limbs employed in prostration bore scare and impression of his sajdah(prostration). Most of the nights were spent on the prayer-carpet. While performing ablution, he trembled with the fear of Allah and his face grew pale at the time of prayer. He was so courteous and humble that he never hesitated so sit along with the beggars in the lanes and on the thoroughfares of Medina to reply to some of their religious queries. After the martyrdom of Imam Ali(a.s) majority of Muslims pledged their allegiance to him and finalized the formality of bayah(oath of allegiance) but after short time he had to meet challenge of Muawiyah, the Governor of Syria, who declared a war against him. He interred in to peace treaty with Muawiyah on term which were not totally respected and carried out by Muawiyah. Yet saved Islam and stopped civil war. Imam Hassian (a.s) kept religious leadership with him and devoted his life to the propagation of Islam and teachings of the Holy Prophet in Medina. Muawiyah’s malice against Imam Hasan (a.s) led him to conspire with the Imam’s wife Jadah bint Ashath. She was made to give the Imam’s some poison which effected his liver. His bier while being taken for burial to the Holy Prophet’s tomb was shot at with arrows by his enemies( under direct supervision and consent of Ayishah , daughter of Abu Bakr and wife of Holy Prophet). After this he was buried in Jannatu’l-Baqi at Medina. His tomb was demolished along with others on 8th Shawwal 1344(21st April 1926)by the Saudi ruler when they came to power in Hijjaz. Both Sunni and Shia sources have transmitted this saying of Holy Prophet concerning Hasan and Hussain: “These two children of mine are Imams(leaders)whether they stand up or sit down.”(allusion to whether they occupy the external function of caliphate or not). next |
