Title: al- Jawad or at- Taqi

Agrnomen: Abu Jaffar.

Father’s name: Ali ar- Raza.

Mother’s name: Sabikah(or Khayzuran).

Birth: In Medina, on Friday, 10^th Rajab 195 AH.

Death: Martyred at the age of 25, in al-Kazimiyyan on Wednesday,29^th Dhi’l-qidah 220 AH; poisoned by Mutasim, the Abbsid caliph; buried in al Kazimiyyan Baghdad(Iraq).

Historian have mentioned this Imam as Abu Jaffar the second. Imam Muhammad al-Jawad was brought up by this Holy Father Imam Ali al-Raza for 4 years. After the forced migration of his father from to Khurasan( Iran), he left behind. His father was fully aware of treacherous character of ruling king, so before his departure from Medina he declared his son Muhammad al-Jawad as his successor.

The Holy Imam al-Jawad was the symbol of Prophet Muhammad’s affability and Ali’s attainments. His hereditary qualities comprised of gallantry ,boldness , charity ,learning, forgiveness and tolerance .The Abbasid caliph al-Mamun realized that it is necessary to win the sympathy and support of the Iranian who had always been friendly to Ahlu’l-bayt. Hence he desired to marry his daughter Umm’l-Fazal to Muhammad al-Jawad , so he summoned the Imam from Medina to Iraq. Imam defeat the greatest scholar and Jurist of Baghdad Yahya bin Aktham in huge gathering of people from all part of the kingdom. All of them shouted, “ Undoubtedly there is no one parallel to Muhammad bin Ali aj-Jawad. In same assembly al- Mamun wedded his daughter to the Imam. One year after the marriage the Imam returned to Medina with his wife and there he set about preaching the Commandments of Allah.

After the death of al Mamun, al Mutasim ascended the throne and summoned the Imam (a.s) to Baghdad. Imam arrived at Baghdad in 9^th Muharram 220 AH and poisoned by caliph in the same year. He buried beside his grandfather Imam Musa al- Kazim( the 7^th Imam), in al-Kazimiyan , in the suburb of Baghdad( Iraq).
